Why do people hate shinji ikari

However, while Shinji Ikari is a deeply flawed character by design, these are not demerits, but rather features of a very complex, fascinating protagonist. What Neon Genesis Evangelion does so well is that it captures the life of a deeply problematic, deeply depressed character struggling to hold on. His refusal to pilot a robot makes sense when you realize that Evangelions are Lovecraftian horrors that push nothing but misery and pain onto him.

The meme that Shinji doesn't get into the robot is fairly misleading since Shinji does in fact pilot Evangelion Unit regularly throughout the anime.

In fact, Shinji only refuses to pilot four times: when he's first asked to pilot, then again after his second fight, after the traumatic Evangelion Unit fight over a dozen episodes later and before the End of Evangelion where he's slipped into a near-catatonic state.

To make matters more bizarre, in every case, Shinji has very good reason to not want to pilot. In the first situation, he has no idea what an Evangelion is.

He has no idea how to pilot it, is put on the spot to save the world without any warning and is reuniting with the father who abandoned him who still doesn't seem to value his well-being. The bathtub scene, from what I recall, took place in a dilapidated bathroom anyway, it would make sense for the bath water to be dirty.

She may have injured herself in another way. The reveal that the strangulation scene happened quite frankly shocked me, so I will have to think about it. I feel as if Shinji turned to Kaworu out of general despair rather than due to any harm towards Asuka. In the hospital scene he says he wants Asuka back due to problems with Misato and Rei, so I feel as if he felt no one was there for him until Kaworu took advantage of that.

To be honest, you seem a little too invested in the Asuka pregnant theory when, as pointed out, there are other valid explanations to some of your evidence. If Shinji is so bad, then she should be held accountable for her actions too. Anyway, my memory is terrible so feel free to refute any of my arguments.

I do agree with your last points, Shinji was in the wrong for the hospital scene and Instrumentality. However he was definitely not mentally fit during Instrumentality and probably would have been considered insane and unable to be held accountable for it. I apologize if my phrasing was confusing. I took this to be symbolism for the miscarriage. The strangulation might have been a knee-jerk, PTSD reaction from being a teenage solider.

Thanks for the thoughtful and insightful response, this post has incited a lot of hate. Unit 00 was initially colored yellow like the previous prototypes, but its armor was damaged beyond repair by the Angel Ramiel and has since been refitted with blue armor plating in addition to other alterations made in order to make it more suitable for combat conditions, including shoulder pylons similar in ….

Many times during Neon Genesis: Evangelion, End of Evangelion, and the Rebuilds actually have pilots experiencing pain. The amount of pain they recieve is in accordance to their Synchronization Rate.

Kaworu is able to pilot an Eva for the same reason as Rei, only he is a form of Adam the father of the other angels. Other media. The Evangelion franchise has spread from the original anime into a number of different media, with some following the official canon of the episode anime series and its three related films or the new Rebuild series and others differing on important plot points originally introduced in the anime.

At the end of episode 24, Shinji is forced to kill Kaworu, who was revealed to be the final Angel. Despite being made to reunite with Lilith, thus wiping out humanity and making Angels the new dominant lifeform, Kaworu is moved to give his own life so that humanity—or rather, Shinji—can go on.

Both the series end and the EoE movie are canonical endings. Rebuild, as we know is canon as well. Since everyone became one, there were no secrets to be hidden. Overall, we could say that The End of Evangelion is a happy ending because: It never had enough drama. People turning into LCL was never a death scene. Shinji gained enlightenment during instrumentality.

It is a sad movie positive because the sad scenes are very impactful and leave a lasting impression on the viewer, even if the ending is positive. We are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. People think he is a wimp because he is concerned with the ethics of NERV. It is also probable that he is hated because people think Shinji pilots only to gain approval from his father.

You know, the usual things. But since it's locked, feel free to carry on in this one. Anyway, I'd say that Spike Spencer's take on Shinji is part of the reason people hated him. With Ogata's take on Shinji, you sympathize for him. Spencer's take on the other hand makes you annoyed at this boy who does nothing but whine.

Besides that reason, people don't like Shinji because he reflects the negative traits in all of us. Nobody wants to think of how screwed up they are, so they take to thinking Shinji's just a pussy who can't man up without realizing he's only a 14 year old boy who's put in an extremely difficult situation who's nothing but a tool for Nerv. The process of growth is considered boring in a milieu of child-adults and the denigration of naivete. Males must be cocksure and completely "masculine" - art cannot stand on its own to be interpreted, it has to be explicitly defined in usually sexually stereoptyped terms.

I'm not so sure this is true in all cultures - but is clear in English-language areas. Another Asuka wrote: While even a moderate dose of Shinjis traits is negative. I mean come on, if somebody's depressed as well as has feelings of suicide as the start of EoE shows with Shinji at the lake , said feelings are only going to get worse after something so horrible as witnessing a death and feeling you're completely alone.

Tines Because he's a quitter.
