In the previous article, I talked about how you can grow wheat, beetroot, carrots, and potatoes in a single farm to maximize efficiency. Most people tend to stay away from farming melons and pumpkins because of how difficult they are to come by at times. So what are the things you need to start growing melons and pumpkins? As you might have noticed, the current farm looks an awful lot like the basic farm I detailed in my second post.
If you grow both melons and pumpkins together, you can set up a 19 x 9 block two 9 x 9 farms divided by a row of oak slabs or torches. In my experience, melons are a lot easier to come across than pumpkins. It will retain its color but will have the distinctive face of a pumpkin. In these instances, the melon will not give you any seeds and should be destroyed you can use an axe or sword for this. There are some land efficient layouts that can be used for planting melons or pumpkins in a basic farm.
What is land efficiency? It is basically about getting as much crops as possbile using a fixed amount of space. Hopefully one day Mojang will update the game so mushrooms grow a little faster.
Farming the other plants in Minecraft: PE are fairly simple. To grow grass which you can use to make bread, you simply use a hoe to till up the grass that grows on almost all dirt blocks. As you do this, seeds will pop up from the ground. All you have to do is replant them on a block that has been tilled and grass will grow there. To harvest, long tap on the plant and it will give you grass and more seeds. Wait until the grass turns tan and the tops become brown before you harvest.
You can, of course, grow trees from saplings. They will fall from the tree when you cut one down. You just have to pick them up and place them on dirt away from things that could obstruct their growth. Trees will produce apples sometimes when you cut them down. You can use them for dies to make blue and yellow wool, but other than that, they are simply for decoration.
